Barry Harris & Chris Cox

１９９５年にJeff Johnson、Chris Coxの手により創設されたダンス・レーベル Interhit。その後１９９７年にこのレーベルから発表されたDonna Summer / Carry Onが１９９８年から設けられた部門されたグラミー賞ベスト・ダンス・レコーディングを受賞し、広くレーベルをアピールする結果となりました。そしてこのレーベルから独自のアーティストOutta Controlとして活躍し、過去にはコン・カンというユニットとしても大ヒットの功績を持つBarry Harrisとのタッグが実現Thunderpuss 2000の誕生となりました。作風は当時西側的硬いサウンドと言われ、しっかり効いたベース・ラインに独自のVOCAL刻み攻撃には脱帽！作風もニューヨーク的暗黒感に比べ、明るくアップなものも多いです。手がけるアーティストは日本でもおなじみのメジャーアーティストが多く、しっかりと踊れるキャッチー音作りがアーティストにウケているようです。その時その曲にあわせて変える作風はまさにプロの仕事！ダンス・ユニットとしてもリミックスとしても経験豊かで大きな期待が持てそうです。2000年からはThunderpuss 2000の「2000」が取れて、Thunderpussとなっています。

まさにInterhitレーベルの看板となったこのナンバーは以前にプロデューサー、ジョルジオ・モロダーがライティングし未発表トラックとなっていたドナ・サマーの隠れた名曲でこのInterhitレーベルのライセンスによりリリースされ数々のリミックスがほどこされました。そしてThunderpussのお二人もチーム結成以前に別々にこの曲でリミックスを展開し、グラミー賞ベスト・ダンス・レコーディングを受賞しました。まさにThunderpuss結成のきっかけとなった曲・・・ながら今と全然違う作風です。

この作品は１９９９年リリース・・・その時、正直いってこのNobody's Angelが何者か判らなかったのですが・・・２０００年に入りデビューを飾ったポスト、スパイス・ガールズ的な女の子４人組であることが判りました。オリジナルもまんまスパイスって感じのＲ＆Ｂなポップナンバーです。それを派手めなサンパスビートに乗っけてアホアホ展開、明るく楽しいご機嫌トラックに仕上がっています。

東映映画の「ゴジラ」がこの年ハリウッドリメイクされ、サントラもリリースされました・・・が！この曲はそのサントラとはまったくの無関係。実はこの曲約２０年前の初代ゴジラを見たヘビメタグループ、ブルー・オイスター・カルトが「ゴジラ」とタイトルしたグロイ感じのこのロック・ナンバーをヒットさせました。その曲をグラミーのベスト・ダンス・レコーディング受賞で乗りに乗るThunderpussがリミックス、映画の上映と重なり旬なネタのリリースとなりました。作風はThunderpussの王道的な音作りながらヴォーカルが絡むのはオリジナル・ヴァージョンのみの完全ハードトラック仕様です。
